Louis Joseph Bervid, Jr., 76, left this world for a better place on November 14, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis Sr. and Mary, Lou was raised on the South Side of Chicago and was an avid White Sox, Blackhawks and Bears fan. In 1961, Lou married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanne Szczurek, with whom he explored life during their 55-year marriage. Lou was a proud and loving father to his three children Laura (Ricardo) Ochoa, Sandra Bervid and Louis (Christine) Bervid III.

Lou’s honest and humble beginnings prepared him for a life of service, and his noteworthy career in law enforcement spanned over 35 years. In 1967, Lou joined the Hanover Park, Illinois Police Department. A hard worker with steadfast determination, Lou accomplished much during his life; he became chief of police for the Geneseo Police Department in 1981, where he remained until his retirement, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Lou leaves behind a beautiful legacy as a loving brother to Stephen (Darlene) Bervid and Bettyann (Ramon Sr.) Zevallos and was the fun-living grandfather to David and Bryan Duran, Zachary and Samantha Slanger, and Alexandra Bervid. He is the great-grandfather of Dylan Duran and Natalie Slanger and uncle and great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. His wife and children have always recognized their husband and father as a truly unique and exceptional individual. Lou’s circle of friends was vast, and he will be missed by all.
