Patrick “Pat” Barrett. Native of Ballylongford, Kerry, Ireland. Born to Mickey and Madge Barrett on August 2, 1940, 3 hours before his twin sister Joan. He attended the boys national school in Ballylongford and the Technical Hi School in Listowel. He was considered a talented member of both the Listowel School hurling and football teams. Upon finishing school, he was employed at Marshall and McAuley Law Firm in Listowel as a paralegal. In 1960, he emigrated to Chicago to join his brothers Tom and Jack and sisters Joan and Maureen.
He worked at several jobs after first arriving in Chicago, but eventually he settled into his permanent job with Penn Central RR selling and leasing real estate. He was a member of the St. Vincents Hurling Club and Division 59 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was drafted into the U.S. army and served most of his tour in Alaska, where he was assigned to the hospital as a medical aide.
He was the father of 5 children, Michael, John, Patricia, Brenda and Rory and the grandfather of Sean Barrett. He was very interested in the world around him, and his favorite topic of conversation was politics and Ireland.
He died July 14, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Chicago at the age of 77.
Memorial Mass to be held at Incarnation Catholic Church, 5757 W 127th St, Palos Heights, Illinois on Saturday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. Interment private.
