IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerard T.
Murphy
March 18, 1954 – June 6, 2024
Gerard T. "Jerry" Murphy passed away June 6, 2024 at the age of 70 years old after battling pancreatic cancer. Jerry was born in Belfast, Ireland on March 18, 1954 to late parents Alexander and Catherine Murphy. Beloved husband to Constance Murphy (Nee Irwin) and devoted father to Meghan (Leah Gapinski) Murphy, Matthew Murphy and Catherine (Matthew) Yellon. He was the most lovable Papa to Sadie, Maeve and Miles Murphy, Henry and Kitty Yellon, Caitlin Caimano and Leah Ennis. He was the youngest of 9 children. Dear brother to Alexander, William, George and the late Alexander, John and Patrick Murphy, Sarah Mahoney and Mary Donoghue. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Jerry worked as a local Chicago union painter for 40 years. Jerry painted the original antennas atop the iconic Sears Tower. He was a past school board president of St. Maurice School and a devoted coach for his kids' sports. After retiring, he spent most of his time playing golf in two men's leagues, going to White Sox games, attending all his grandkids' activities, placing bets, and playing slot machines any chance he had while always keeping everyone on their toes with his next prank. He provided endless laughter and unconditional love to everyone in his life. He will be missed by all who knew him. Per Jerry's request, please wear your favorite team jersey in his honor to the visitation.
