Kenneth Charles Alvers

Kenneth Charles Alvers, U.S. Navy Veteran, passed away at his Tinley Park home on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Kathleen "Kathy" Alvers, nee Bean, for 56 years. Loving father of Kenneth R. "Kenny" (Kelly) Alvers. Cherished grandfather of Carly and Colin Alvers. Dear brother of Lynne Alvers (the late Lee) Patterson of New Lenox, Melanie Alvers (John) Knaack of Kankakee, and the late Robert Lee Alvers Jr. (the late Joan). Devoted son of the late Martha, nee Turner, and Robert Lee Alvers Sr. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Special brother-in-law to Sam & Patricia Petty, Mark & Marilyn Tolene, Barbara & the late Ray Marchi, Mark & Karen Costa, Philip & Kim Bean, and Larry Bean.

Ken served aboard the USS Okinawa in Vietnam from 1965 until 1969. He was employed at Acme Steel in Riverdale for 34 years. Then, after retiring from Acme, Ken went to work at Midway Airport for American Trans Air for 10 years then went to Southwest Airlines for 5 years before retiring for good at the age 68. Ken was an avid gardener and his hobbies included estate auctions and collecting occupational shaving mugs. He enjoyed league bowling for many years, was a member of the New Lenox VFW, and met regularly with Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR). He always enjoyed his close friendships with Jim Burnett, John Knaack, and Ronnie Volbrecht. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His grandchildren Carly and Colin were the center of much happiness and joy for him.

A Memorial Visitation will be held for Kenneth C. Alvers on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 W. 127th Street, Crestwood. A Prayer Service and Military Honors are scheduled for 6:30 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, donations to DAV - Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) in Ken's name would be appreciated.
