Thomas Joseph "Joe" Sumrall, 44, passed away on November 29, 2024, at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL, after a brief illness. Born on March 5, 1980, in Hinsdale, IL, Joe was the son of Thomas and Kathleen (Haberkorn) Sumrall. He married Carolyn Solarski on June 4, 2010. After graduating from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School, he studied literature at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. His great ambition was to write a novel. He was especially fond of the work of George Saunders. Joe was an A/V technician at the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago, where he specialized in setting up audio for large conventions. As a passionate Cubs fan, he particularly looked forward to the annual Cubs convention. In addition to his technical skills, Joe was a gifted artist, creating beautiful paintings for friends and family. A devoted father, Joe shared his love of cooking with his children and took great joy in decorating for holidays, with Halloween being a favorite. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and collecting a wide variety of albums from many different genres. Joe is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Madeline and Ian, his mother Kathleen of Bourbonnais, as well as several beloved relatives, including uncles Robert Sumrall of Beverly, MA, and David Sumrall of Chebanse, and aunts Genice Bailey of Kankakee and Sharon Lundahl of Bourbonnais. Joe was preceeded in death by his father Thomas, brother Christopher, paternal grandparents Thomas and Cleo Sumrall, maternal grandparents William Haberkorn, Jr and Mary Ann Davis and aunt Sandra Mill. Arrangements for a memorial service are being finalized.
