Agnes O'Brien Obituary

Agnes T. O’Brien, nee Oboikovitz, (late Frank M. O’Brien), of Chicago, passed away November 28, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Jean O’Brien-Bravi and Karen (Peter) Piniotes; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Garretson, Lori Bravi, Ryan (Jennifer) Bravi, Jordan (Shaun) Barnett, Daniel O’Brien-Bravi, and Kyle Piniotes; great-grandchildren, Reilly, Paxton, Michael, Kellan, Easton, and Julia; brothers, Jim (Sunny) Oboikovitz, Larry (the late Diane), and Ken (Carol) Oboikovitz. Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, Angeline and John Oboikovitz, granddaughter, Courtney Piniotes; sisters, Mary (the late Ted) Anton, Adele (the late Al) Stankus, Rose (the late Bill) Luzadder, and Eileen Oboikovitz; brothers, John (the late Jean) Oboikovitz, and Bill (the late Becky) Oboikovitz; sisters- in-law Rita (the late Charles) O’Connell, Mary (the late John) Rategan, and Irene (the late Robert) McElroy, brothers-in-law Pat (the late Dorothy) O’Brien, John (the late Theresa) O’Brien, and Donald (the late Carole) O’Brien. She was the fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Agnes grew up on the South Side of Chicago with her 9 siblings and graduated from Englewood H.S. in 1944. She married Frank O’Brien in 1948. Agnes was a devoted wife and mother, as well as a professional woman. She worked in banking nearly four decades, starting at the Federal Reserve Bank and ending with her retirement from LaSalle Bank in 1985. Her strong work ethic set a precedent for others to follow. She enjoyed travelling around with Frank – almost as much as her Vegas trips with Adele, Irene and Sunny. Agnes looked forward to her freshly planted flowers every year, but really loved a “nice hot cup of coffee” every day. Agnes truly appreciated when things were “just so.” Her boundless energy and love supported her daughters through their lives. She was a cherished Nana and Great Nana who cheered on her grandchildren in every endeavor, and she found great joy in singing and clapping for her great-grandchildren. Agnes loved her family above all else. She will be greatly missed.
